I didn’t actually think it would be this hard to think of an opening line for a first ever post on a shiny new blog but I was of course, like I almost always am… mistaken. Words are strange things, always there whirling around in our heads when they are not needed, but disperse, dispel, disappear when we want them most. Funny that.
I could of course do the whole obligatory introduction of myself, but where is the fun in that? No I would much rather leave that to a slow reveal and jump straight into something much more interesting… for example the how and why of my blog name.
Now of course when one sees the lightning struck tower one might immediately assume it is a Harry Potter reference, though in this case that would be a wrong assumption. While I enjoy a good book, the Potter books among them, the title is not in any way shape or form referring to them. Nope, the title above is in fact referencing to card XVI of a Tarot deck, The Tower.
For those of you not in the know, let me give you a rundown of the Tower card.
One might assume in a tarot deck that the most destructive card would be card XIII Death, but it is not (and to be perfectly frank none of the cards are truly negative, it is all a matter of perspective) rather, it is the Tower card that is the herald of disaster, upheaval and revelation.
So why name my blog after such? As I have said above, it is all a matter of perspective. While the Tower card does denote a time of turmoil and destruction, after said destruction comes a time of rebuilding, and it is entirely up to the individual how they wish to shape the reconstruction efforts. I have been, or am still, going through my period of the Tower. Life as I have known it for the last ten years is crumbling down all around me. I can’t delude myself any longer, I need to change, I need my life to change and this blog will be a large part of that. It is time I stopped hiding myself away from life and opened my arms and embraced it.
I want to live, laugh and love again.
I want to share more of myself with the world around me, and my chosen form of self-expression is art and creative writing. Now I am not the most organised person at the best of times, and I am a self-confessed procrastinator, so I am hoping that having a blog as a tool to share my arty progress will encourage me to dedicate more time to my current projects, more of which I shall reveal shortly. So basically I have just used a really long winded way of saying that I am turning a negative into a positive.
So let us move on to those projects I hinted on above shall we…
An illustrated book of poetry – what can I say, I like rhythm and rhyme. I currently have 4 poems written with ideas for many more and the idea is that each poem will have an illustration to go along with.
I find that the poetry I write is a lot more personal than anything else I write, so I am just going to go with it. The poems will follow a progression of emotion, starting with the darkest and moving through to the more hopeful.
A graphic Novel – This one I have been working on for a long time, and I am really enjoying the scripting process. Still only as far as chapter 1, but I have not had a chance to work on it in quite a while, and I am finding I am missing it, so watch this space as I will be getting back into as much as possible.
So those are my current working projects and I hope to be updating regularly on their progress, as well adding bibs and bobs from my other interests – Art both digital and traditional, photography and pretty much anything else I deem to be a creative pursuit, I may even throw in a review of various things every now and then just to change things up a bit, but I am gonna leave this here for now as I seem to have rambled on for quite a bit.
